Like a player?

If you are over 20 years old, surely you remember this 1989 Madonna commercial for Pepsi. The spoof "Like a Player" was a parody of her original hit single "Like a Prayer". The pathetic excuse for a commercial was only aired a couple times before it was removed. What is even more infuriating is the amount they paid her to use her song. 5 MILLION DOLLARS?!? Celebrities have been branding and endorsing products for years.

The commercial was provocative, seductive, and sexual in a way that the world wasn't ready for at the time it was aired. If something such as this was aired today, it would probably have a memorable impact on TV viewers, as opposed to a negative one.

I don't even want to begin to think of how much Pepsi agrees to pay celebrities such as Britney Spears now a days to slap their face on an already over exposed brand. Companies like Pepsi should think twice about the image they are perceiving to it's consumers. This isn't the first controversial ad, and it certainly won't be the last.
